Position: Senior Formulator - R&D Manager
Duties
- Assist with all stages of product development including, product conceptualization, raw material identification, claim substantiation, formulation, economic feasibility, alpha and beta testing preparation (blending & encapsulating), reformulation, and dosing
- Perform online searches of various scientific publications and databases for novel ingredients, metabolic pathways, physiological functions, contraindications, and regulatory status
Maintain and track electronic spreadsheet and paper log of new and existing ingredients
- Assist with discovery and rediscovery of ingredients in addition to the creation of novel molecular combinations of dietary ingredients i.e. new salts, esters, and ethers etc.
- Stay abreast of new technologies (nanotechnology, nutrigenomics, and delivery systems etc.)
- Stay abreast of trademarked, patented, patent pending, and university based ingredients (university technology licensing centers)
- Assist R&D-QC Manager with alpha and beta testing trials – follow general research protocols (participation feasibility form, informed consent, random assignment, form explanation, data collection, storage, and interpretation)
- Assist purchasing department with sourcing new ingredients
- Assist with obtaining intellectual property i.e. brainstorming new ingredient ideas, molecular combinations, formulations, and delivery systems (controlled and fast release) for patent application
- Maintain and track electronic spreadsheet and paper log of new product formulations and intellectual property
- Assist with clinical efficacy and safety trials i.e. literature review, methodology, subject selection, data collection, storage, and interpretation
- Maintain and track electronic spreadsheet and paper log of clinical trial progression
- Provide scientific support for ingredient and finished product articles, patents, and educational presentations
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Nutrition, Exercise Science, or an applicable science discipline. Experience with nutritional supplements, dietary ingredients, or food preferred. 2 plus years laboratory experience.
